New Narrative for Europe is an initiative designed to connect people living in Europe to the European integration project via the arts and sciences. It provides a platform in which artists, authors, filmmakers, scientists, cultural practitioners and engaged citizens can share their views on and for the development of a European social imaginary and public space of debate, both of which are essential for solidarity and the democratic process, and are enshrined as such in the first document to emerge from this platform, the declaration ‘The Mind and Body of Europe’. Today, more and more people working in every field of culture see little distinction between their spaces and the spaces of politics and everyday life. New Narrative for Europe is an attempt to channel this integrative ethos and to bring its underlying premises to bear on the urgent discussions already under way about the future of
Europe.
New Narrative for Europe is a project proposed by the European Parliament and implemented by the European Commission with the endorsement of its president, José Manuel Barroso. It is steered by a Cultural Committee composed by the following members:
Kathrin Deventer, Paul Dujardin, Olafur Eliasson, Rose Fenton, Cristina Iglesias, Michal Kleiber, György Konrad, Rem Koolhaas, Yorgos Loukos, Peter Matjasic, Jonathan Mills, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Plantu, Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, Thomas Sedlacek and Luisa Taveira
