Following the Milan Longevity Summit held from March 14 to 27 in the Lombard city, with a second edition planned for March 2025, the Longevity Dossier has been published, complying advice from 20 experts, including Stefano Boeri, on principles for maintaining physical and mental health at any age.
Developed with input from some of the world’s leading scientists, the dossier aligns with the guidelines of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021–2030 and promotes the idea that longevity is not just a milestone for seniors but a shared project that spans all generations.
In this context, Stefano Boeri’s contribution, titled Urban Planning and Longevity: How Cities Must Evolve, focuses on how urban architecture can help improve our quality of life. Starting with the concept of cities providing services for the elderly, Boeri envisions new models that consider longevity as a phenomenon that impacts and involves all generations.
A key aspect of this analysis is the influence of environmental factors and living nature on urban health. Examples include air quality, the integration of trees and greenery into urban spaces, and shaded areas to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Another central issue is the ability to integrate healthcare services and other essential resources comprehensively across the territory: models such as the “15-minute city” or the “archipelago city” aim to ensure close access to both digital and material services and information, which are vital for longevity.
