Stefano Boeri Architetti won a competition organized by Tecnocamere for the project of the new Monza Chamber of Commerce Headquarters (Camera di Commercio Industria Artigianato Agricoltura di Monza e Brianza).
The main idea of requalification of the former Fossati cotton mill building which, nowadays, is the center of the administrative activities of the Chamber of Commerce, is the addition of a new volume hosting the representative and communication spaces.
The building is conceived as a “plug-in”: the new structure fits in with the existing one in order to modify the spacial and functional relations and it allows a new flexible distribution and access system able to meet different use needs. The timber cladding of the suspended volume, which definitely invades the distributed space of the existing building on the first and second floor, has the specific aim to organize and divide the congressional space from the administrative one, in order to allow an independent use of the two buildings.
The new congress hall volume (250 seats) has been conceived as a unique, homogenous and one-material body, overlooking the parking space, the latter rethought as a new public space and access to the buildings.
