The project of Casa della Memoria is the brainchild of the City of Milan to give a space to the Milanese associations that, despite their differences in origin and specific objectives, share the common goal of endorsing and building up the collective memory of Milan. The inspirational and underlyng principle behind the A.N.P.I. (Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d’Italia/National Association of Italian Partigiani) and of other associations of Partigiani, the ANED (Associazione Nazionale Ex Deportati/National Association of Ex Deported), the INSMLI (Istituto Nazionale per la Storia del Movimento di Liberazione/National Institute for the History of the Movement of Liberation) or the AIVITER (Associazione Italiana Vittime Terrorismo/Italian Association for Victims of Terrorism) is, in fact, the fight against collective amnesia, maintaining and strengthening the recollection of the political and violent events that have marked Milan’s – and Italy’s – history over the last 60 years.
