Bosco Verticale su The Traveler

The travelling website The Travel publishes a ranking of the “10 modern wonders discovered in the last decade”, including the Bosco Verticale in Milan, a project by Boeri Studio.

The article, which aims to emphasise new technological advances and discoveries achieved, alongside historic buildings and works, includes “revolutionary engineering feats, ancient new discoveries and impressive natural wonders, all testifying to the constantly evolving nature of human creativity, ingenuity and discovery”.

Alongside public buildings, such as the museums in Cape Town or Abu Dhabi, engineering feats such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the towers in New York and Shanghai, the Bosco Verticale in Milan is cited, the first example of its kind, built in 2014 in the Porta Nuova area.

The concept of the Bosco Verticale, i.e. “a house for trees that is also home to humans and birds”, defines not only the urban and technological characteristics but also the architectural language and expressive qualities of the project: consisting of two towers, 80 and 112 m high, the project houses a total of 800 trees (480 first and second size trees, 300 smaller ones), 15,000 perennials and/or ground cover plants and 5,000 shrubs. A vegetation equivalent to that of 30,000 square metres of forest and undergrowth, concentrated on 3,000 square metres of urban area.

Moreover, the combination of these features has earned the project important awards, including the International Highrise Award from the Deutschen Architekturmuseums in Frankfurt (2014) and the CTBUH Award as the best tall building in the world, from the Council for Tall Building and Urban Habitat of the IIT Chicago (2015).
