On Planet 2020 – insert of the Corriere della Sera that promotes environmental sustainability – an article that combines the charm and historical echoes of the hanging gardens of Babylon, built by King Nebuchadnezzar II, and the suggestion of the cities of the future in a Treetopia that allows trees and humans to share domestic spaces. Not only for the aesthetic value, but above all for the environmental one, these projects allow to combine beauty with concrete help for the ecosystem: in Italy, and in the world, the symbol of the new architectural course is now the Vertical Forest of Milan.
Is it possible to build these buildings at competitive prices for the average citizen, without making them only exclusive residences? According to the architect Francesca Cesa Bianchi, partner of the Stefano Boeri Architetti studio, yes: “With our studio we are working on a Vertical Forest project on a social housing intervention – with housing spaces with regulated rent – in Eindovhen, Netherlands. The Trudo Vertical Forest”. The development of the Vertical Woods allows to protect biodiversity and to save endangered species of flowers and plants because they are forgotten and no longer cultivated. City forests can spring up everywhere, adapting, from time to time, the choice of flora to the local climate.
