Smart Forest City Cancun su Noblesse Magazine

Noblesse Magazine, a monthly Korean publication, features the Smart Forest City of Cancun, a project by Stefano Boeri Architetti, in its architecture section dedicated to visions of the cities of the future.

Capable of hosting up to 130,000 inhabitants, the Smart Forest City of Cancun covers 557 hectares and includes 362 hectares of vegetated surfaces and 120,000 plants belonging to 350 different species. The design is of an open and international city inspired by the values of technological innovation and environmental quality.

The Smart Forest City is conceived as an energy self-sufficient settlement through a perimeter ring of photovoltaic panels and a water canal connected to an underground system linked to the sea, which allows the city to be powered sustainably. This choice enables the development of a circular economy focused on water use, a key element of the project. Water is collected at the city’s entrance with a large dock and a desalination tower, and then distributed through a system of canals, which are also navigable, allowing water to spread throughout the settlement and irrigate the surrounding agricultural fields. The new Forest City is also at the forefront in terms of mobility, thanks to a comprehensive transportation system that requires both residents and visitors to leave combustion vehicles at the city’s edge, ensuring that internal mobility is solely electric and semi-automated.
