Stefano Boeri Architetti is one of the finalists in the competition for the regeneration plan for the Léon Blum district of Issy-les-Molineaux, a French town near Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine department.
The aim of this ZAC (Concerted Planning Zone), created in 2015, is to redevelop a district built in the first half of the 20th century.
For the redevelopment, the city council invited eight big names in international architecture to take part in the competition to realise the project on a 20,000 square metre site.
Among them are Stefano Boeri Architetti, Snøhetta (Norway), famous for designing the Oslo Opera House, Daniel Libeskind, architect of the One World Trade Center in New York, and Sou Fujimoto (Japan), known for his Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo.
A number of French architects are also taking part, including Jean-Paul Viguier, architect of the Orange headquarters, Valode & Pistre (Beaugrenelle) and Tryptique Architecture, and Nicolas Laisné (l’Arbre Blanc in Montpellier).
“Our aim is to give a further boost to this area with an exceptional architectural project. The houses built […] will therefore have to combine innovation with a remarkable architectural appearance”, says Philippe Knusmann, Deputy Mayor (UDI) in charge of urban planning in Issy-les-Moulineaux.
