La Repubblica publishes an interview by Matteo Macor with Stefano Boeri on the occasion of the inauguration, on December 15, 2024, of the Memoriale 14 Agosto 2018, dedicated to the victims of the Morandi Bridge collapse.
The project, developed by the team led by Stefano Boeri Architetti in collaboration with the victims’ families, is located near the former Pier 9 of the Morandi Bridge, a particularly significant site for commemorating the tragic event as an element of memory and reflection.
An industrial building has been transformed into a space of remembrance, featuring plants, lights, music, and moments of silence—a kind of “civil ballad,” as Stefano Boeri describes it.
“The families of the victims were the true clients of the project. They needed a physical place to process their grief, but also to convey the full scope of the story and share it with everyone who visits. Within the space, visitors will experience a journey: from the story of the old bridge’s construction to the exact moment of its collapse. At the heart of it all will be the documentation and denunciation area, where the legal proceedings related to the collapse will be reconstructed, updated, and explained step by step, with an evolving timeline. I hope this becomes a space where schools visit daily, contributing to the pursuit of truth, if not justice,” concludes Stefano Boeri.
