La Repubblica, in the context of the Green&Blue festival, a three-day event dedicated to ecological transition and urban sustainability, publishes an article titled “Ten Actions to Undertake for Environmentally Friendly Cities,” using the image of Milan’s Bosco Verticale, a project by Boeri Studio, as the symbolic cover of the event.
Cities are the most exposed to the consequences of climate change, and decisive, urgent actions must start from the cities for adaptation and mitigation of global warming. With this awareness, the Green City Network, an initiative promoted by the Foundation for Sustainable Development, has been operating since 2018, involving large, medium, and small urban centers committed to improving ecological quality, climate mitigation and adaptation actions, soil conservation, and the efficient and circular use of resources. At the Green&Blue Festival, the “Charter for Nature Positive Cities” will also be presented, an action plan for greener urban centers.
In this context, the Bosco Verticale stands out as a virtuous example, being the first instance of biodiversity architecture, where the vegetation element becomes an integral part of the architectural project, not just an ornament. Unlike the “mineral” facades made of glass or stone, the vegetative screen of 800 trees at the Bosco Verticale neither reflects nor amplifies solar rays but filters them, generating a welcoming internal microclimate without harmful environmental effects. At the same time, the green curtain “regulates” humidity, produces oxygen, and absorbs CO2 and fine dust particles.
