In issue 113 of IoArch, within the “Work in Progress” section dedicated to previews of planned or ongoing construction projects, the Urban Oasis project developed by Stefano Boeri Architetti in a 3-hectare area in the heart of Bratislava is featured.

Urban Oasis aims to revitalize the area through a system of residential spaces, green areas, and public functions, with the goal of establishing a new central hub for the city. Specifically, the masterplan spans a triangular plot of 32,500 square meters and includes five buildings—comprising a tower and four medium-density structures—arranged around a large new central public park that is open to everyone. A network of pathways, open spaces, and communal areas crisscross the park, enriching the district with a new urban landscape accessible to all residents and enhancing the neighborhood’s porosity and permeability.

With a strong emphasis on pedestrian areas and cycling paths—where routes weave through green zones and connect all the ground floors within the park—the project significantly prioritizes sustainable mobility over car use to improve the quality of life in the district. In line with the same focus on mitigating the neighborhood’s environmental impact, solar panels cover approximately 4,600 square meters of the rooftops, contributing to the area’s energy needs through the production of renewable energy. Additionally, the project features urban drainage systems to manage water runoff, utilizing green roofs, permeable paving, and reservoirs for rainwater collection and management.

For these reasons, Urban Oasis represents an important opportunity for urban regeneration, reshaping the dynamics of a strategic district in Bratislava and defining a new urban node, starting from a large public park at its center.
