In the September 2 episode of Imbarco Immediato, a podcast by Rai Radio 1, journalist Germana Brizzolari speaks with Stefano Boeri about the green projects of Stefano Boeri Architetti and the future challenges of urban development.
From the episode synopsis: The theme of this episode is the future. The main guest is architect Stefano Boeri, discussing his numerous projects for sustainable and human-scale cities. Also featured are entrepreneur Giorgio Manenti, who flew into space as a pioneering tourist; astro-agronomist Stefania De Pascale, author of the book “Piantare patate su Marte,” published by Aboca; Professor Anna Osello from the Polytechnic University of Turin, who takes her students into the future through artificial intelligence and the metaverse; and Lorenzo Bruzzone from the University of Trento, who coordinated an international research project that discovered underground tunnels on the Moon.
“The issue of tourist colonization is a crucial one with several facets: the excessive concentration of flows on one hand, and on the other, the rise of Airbnb. The trend of replacing historic residences with super-temporary, super-intermittent rentals is worrisome because it causes cities to lose their heart, their soul, and thus their very essence. I’m thinking of Milan, Florence, Venice. Naturally, more vigorous action is needed, for example, considering the issue of tourist flows in Rome. With the Laboratorio Roma050, we are exploring the extraordinary spread of archaeology throughout the metropolitan area, highlighting the hidden treasures that all of Rome, not just its center and the Imperial Forums, can offer. In the center of Rome, there is also ongoing discussion on how to regulate the Airbnb phenomenon, as has already been done in Barcelona and Paris, to curb this frantic intermittency by reducing the frequency of short-term rentals or imposing a minimum rental period of at least one week,” states Stefano Boeri.
