In the Il Sole 24 Ore article entitled ‘Innovative models for declining quality of life and sustainability‘, the Wonderwoods Vertical Forest project in Utrecht by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects is mentioned amongst the examples.
The article emphasises how initiatives of this nature can offer a tangible response to the environmental and social challenges faced by contemporary metropolises.
The Wonderwoods Vertical Forest project by Stefano Boeri Architetti is a 104-metre tower that reinterprets the vertical forest model, characterised by a strong presence of trees and plants, in a mixed-use context. Following the Vertical Forest in Milan and the Trudo Vertical Forest (in social housing) in Eindhoven, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is the world’s first vertical forest characterised by the presence of public functions open to citizens, with the aim of making this innovative architectural type increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to all.
The building, inaugurated at the beginning of 2025, will offer approximately 200 residential units of various types, designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of users. In addition, it will feature commercial spaces, sports and leisure areas, and restaurants.
Culturally speaking, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest represents a pioneering development in contemporary European architecture, as well as an important experiment in demineralisation of vertical architectural surfaces. Strategically located in the city centre, it also constitutes a new urban reference point for Utrecht, thanks to its high functional mix and focus on inclusivity.
