Urban Oasis su Il Sole 24 Ore

Il Sole 24 Ore presents the Urban Oasis project, a competition won by Stefano Boeri Architetti for the master plan of Chalupkova in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The Urban Oasis project revitalizes the area through a system of residential spaces, green areas, and public functions with the aim of defining a new core for the city. Specifically, the master plan covers a triangular plot of 32,500 square meters and includes five buildings – one tower and four medium-density buildings – developed around a new large central public park, open to everyone. A series of pathways, open spaces, and communal areas cross the park, enriching the area with a new urban setting accessible to all citizens and enhancing the neighborhood’s porosity and permeability.

Thanks to the predominant role of pedestrian areas and bike paths within the park, the pathway weaves through green zones and connects all the ground floors. The project significantly prioritizes sustainable mobility over car usage to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. With the same attention to mitigating the neighborhood’s environmental impact, solar panels cover approximately 4,600 square meters on the rooftops of the buildings to contribute to the neighborhood’s energy needs through the production of renewable energy. Additionally, the project includes urban drainage systems to manage water runoff through green roofs, permeable pavements, and stormwater collection and management basins.

Therefore, Urban Oasis represents an important opportunity for urban regeneration to reshape the dynamics of a strategic neighborhood in Bratislava and define a new urban hub, starting with a large central public park.
