elaborator

In an article published in Il Giorno, Giambattista Anastasio recounts how Milan is seizing the opportunity of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics to embark on a path of urban transformation, focusing on Elaborator, an initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon programme.

Elaborator promotes the design of inclusive, safe, accessible and sustainable urban mobility, with the the research department of Stefano Boeri Architetti and partners including Things and Amat.

The project, writes Anastasio, focuses on three points: the interventions along the Olympic routes, for 80 kilometres of roads, with 39 junctions or crossroads to be redesigned or modified precisely to eliminate existing physical barriers; the second focuses on Via Novara, destined to become a model road for accessibility by the end of 2025; finally, the mapping of public space to support decision-making.

Elaborator stands for ‘The European Living Lab on designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate neutral cities’. The project uses a holistic approach to plan, design, implement and deploy specific innovations and interventions for safe, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility. These interventions consist of intelligent control tools, dynamic redesign and allocation of space, shared services and integration of active and green transport modes.
