La Gazzetta dello Sport publishes an interview by Alessandra Bocci with Stefano Boeri on the occasion of Earth Day, delving into some projects and visions related to the role of living nature in architecture.
The focus of the article is the ecological transition, linked to electric mobility, energy consumption, changing everyday habits-such as diet, for example-and forestation.
Starting from the Bosco Verticale project in Milan, conceived by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra), the interview touches on various initiatives, such as the Forestami project, which aims to plant 3 million trees in the Milan metropolitan area by 2030, which see as a starting point the need to integrate trees and plants in cities.
“Regarding mobility, unfortunately the purchase of electric cars was off to a good start in Italy but has stalled a bit. It is an important step but very slow, on the other hand there are few charging stations on the ground and this creates distrust.
As for energy consumption, we are doing better: solar is really starting to take off in our country. On the issue of green in cities, I say shade and water. They are the assets to secure immediately. Urban greenery is crucial for absorbing CO2. Think of how many cars in Milan are left abandoned for long periods of summer: they become hot sheets of metal. Planting trees even in small spaces like traffic islands and certain parking lots would be very important,” concludes Stefano Boeri.
