Air France’s EnVols magazine publishes an interview with Stefano Boeri by Margaux Krehl in which the design philosophy of the Stefano Boeri Architetti studio is explored and the main green projects are presented.
“Green Obsession” is the philosophy that guides the practice’s work: it is the fertile obsession for a future where cities thrive with forests, green buildings, rooftop gardens, community gardens and urban agriculture, connecting all what we call POL (Permeable Organic Lands). By increasing connectivity between forests, gardens and parks and through the creation of ecological corridors, our green obsession goes beyond simple design, bringing a transformative urban forestry strategy that represents a shift in the future of the global urban landscape.
“Integrating living nature into architectural design is not the only solution against climate change, but it can be a starting point that, combined with sensible policies and sustainable technological systems, could play a key role in reversing the climate crisis and improving the quality of life – for humans, plants and animals – in contemporary cities. And we are proud that Green Obsession received the first prize of the SDG Action Award, in the ‘Inspire’ category (selected from over 5,000 entries from 190 countries covering the full range of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations).
I believe that our work, which fundamentally seeks to bring living nature into the centre of the creative process of architecture, has been able to demonstrate how bringing hectares of forest into the heart of a built city is not only a necessary act to improve the quality of our cities, but also an effective and feasible action,” says Stefano Boeri.
