Dezeen publishes an article by Tom Ravenscroft featuring eight newly designed skyscrapers set to reshape Tirana’s skyline, including the Tirana Vertical Forest, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti.
Currently under construction, the project is located in the city center, near the Grand Park of the Albanian capital (Parku i Madh i Tiranë). The new building, which shares one side with an existing structure, “opens like a flower” towards the city on the remaining three sides, hosting 3,200 plants and shrubs, along with 145 trees. The fully glazed façades, composed of floor-to-ceiling windows, maximize the connection with greenery and offer breathtaking views of the city, while the lush vegetation will help mitigate air pollution.
Being situated in one of the Mediterranean capitals, the Tirana Vertical Forest will feature a selection of native plant species—curated by botanist and landscape architect Laura Gatti—suited to the specific ecosystem. These include shrubs with vivid colors and vibrant blooms, as well as fragrant plants such as myrtle and rosemary.
Other featured projects include: Skanderbeg Building by MVRDV, Hora Vertikale by OODA, Bond Tower by OODA, Downtown One Tirana by MVRDV, Rruga Adem Jashari by Valerio Olgiati, Puzzle Tirana by Network of Architecture and Atelier4, and New Boulevard by Chybik + Kristof.
