On Deutschlandfunk, a German national news channel, Stefan Emeis (scientist from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) proposes the possibilities of reducing heat in cities through a concrete measure, among which, planting trees on the facades and roofs of buildings, he also mentions the Verticale Forest of Mian as an example of this type of green architecture.
The Vertical Forest is a high-density forestry project that increases the green and permeable surfaces in the city and reduces the urban heat island. Unlike “mineral” facades in glass or stone, the plant-based shield does not reflect or magnify the sun’s rays but filters them thereby creating a welcoming internal microclimate without harmful effects on the environment.
