Bosco Verticale su designboom

Designboom publishes an article in collaboration with ArchDaily, titled Milan Architecture City Guide: Highlights from Historical Monuments to Contemporary Works, which includes Bosco Verticale by Boeri Studio.

The article highlights Milan’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Duomo di Milano, Santa Maria delle Grazie—historically and artistically significant—Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, along with numerous Renaissance and Baroque sites. It also features some of the most innovative modern and contemporary architectural works by renowned architects including Aldo Rossi, Gio Ponti, Mario Cucinella, Zaha Hadid, Grafton Architects, Herzog & de Meuron, and Foster + Partners.

Within this context, Bosco Verticale is also featured. Built in Milan’s Porta Nuova district, the project consists of two towers, measuring 80 and 112 meters in height, hosting a total of 800 trees (including 480 large and medium-sized trees, 300 smaller trees, 15,000 perennial and ground-cover plants, and 5,000 shrubs). This vegetation is equivalent to 30,000 square meters of forest and undergrowth, concentrated within just 3,000 square meters of urban space.

Unlike traditional glass or stone façades, Bosco Verticale’s green screen does not reflect or amplify sunlight but instead filters it, creating a pleasant microclimate without harmful environmental effects. At the same time, the green curtain regulates humidity, produces oxygen, and absorbs CO2 and fine dust particles. These features have earned the project several prestigious awards, including the International Highrise Award from the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt (2014) and the CTBUH Award for the Best Tall Building in the World, presented by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat at IIT Chicago (2015).
