Within the Corriere della Sera, in the section dedicated to Milan, the interview with Stefano Boeri conducted by deputy director Venanzio Postiglione for the series “Milano come stai?” is published.
The interview focuses on the challenges and changes that the city of Milan will have to face in the future, from real estate and rising costs issues to environmental and ecological concerns.
“Milan remains extraordinary, but it represents Italy, it’s not the moral capital opposed to the formal capital: it has within it the virtues and vices of our country. Milan does not recognize that it has become a metropolis and even from a political and legal point of view it needs a different dimension: without the 130 municipalities of the hinterland, it makes no sense and has no future. If it’s not a global city that knows how to attract young people and offer housing and services, it doesn’t exist. It’s impossible to limit oneself to the old municipal borders. I said some time ago that Milan was at risk of becoming a city for wealthy elderly people. In these years, it has lost 400,000 inhabitants and gained 500,000. Growing, but it has changed its DNA. Young people and families unable to afford buying or renting a home have left. Here is our challenge: it’s all here. But we have the resources to make it happen. Starting from the historical strength of the city: businesses, the third sector, families, and professionals,” says Stefano Boeri.
