lungomare cagliari su casteddu

The Cagliari Casteddu website, part of the Quotidiano Nazionale news outlet, has published an article by Jacopo Norfo on the occasion of the public opening of the first section of the new Via Roma, part of the waterfront redevelopment project in Cagliari. The project was designed by the temporary consortium of MATE Società Cooperativa, Stefano Boeri Architetti, StudioSilva, S.T.P., and MIC-HUB.

The article highlights how the pedestrian area, enriched with shaded resting spots and play spaces for children, has been crowded with families and residents, eager to experience it as a new and significant public space for the city.

Stefano Boeri Architetti’s project, “A Green Promenade for the Cagliari Waterfront,” envisions the redevelopment of Via Roma’s promenade, an intervention on the Port’s frontage, and the redesign of Piazza Matteotti.

This new urban and landscape intervention aims to restore the social and environmental value of Cagliari’s waterfront through a green promenade that revives the original 19th-century function of Via Roma. Drawing inspiration from Cagliari’s tradition of tree-lined avenues, the project establishes a continuous, pedestrian-friendly, and shaded public space that serves as a “green lung” and a connecting element—both longitudinally, between the FFSS Station and Piazza Ingrao, and transversally, linking the city with the sea.
