The Ansa website publishes an article describing the symbolic planting ceremony of two dogwood trees in the garden of the Italian Embassy – in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to the United States Mariangela Zappia – during the second day of the World Forum on Urban Forests (WFUF2023) in Washington D.C., themed Inclusive Cities.
The symbolic gesture aims to emphasise the importance of green spaces, urban forests and sustainable development for all.
The ceremony was attended by Livia Shamir, Project Leader of the Research Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti, as Master of Ceremony, as well as the Ambassadors of Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Lesotho and Zambia, and representatives from FAO, Politecnico di Milano, SISEF (Società Italiana di Selvicoltura ed Ecologia Forestale), Arbor Day Foundation, Ddot District Department of Transportation of Washington DC, USDA Forest Service, Smithsonian Gardens, International Society of Arboriculture and Restore Mass Ave.
Afterwards, the ceremony included institutional greetings from all the organisers and partners of WFUF2023.
“The tree that we planted today together with the Italian Embassy comes from afar, it comes from the first World Forum on Urban Forests that we organised in Mantua in 2018: today, five years later, we are here in Washington DC, on the occasion of the second World Forum on Urban Forests, to confirm the common commitment,” noted Stefano Boeri Architetti.
