The 12th session of the World Urban Forum WUF12, the most important international forum on urban policies, convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), is being held in Cairo, Egypt, November 4-8, 2024, and features Maria Lucrezia De Marco, Head of the Communication Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti.
WUF12 focuses on localizing the Sustainable Development Goals, shedding light on local actions and initiatives needed to curb current global challenges affecting people’s daily lives, including housing unaffordability, rising cost of living, climate change, lack of basic services and ongoing conflicts.
The WUF is also an opportunity to share ideas and best practices, lay the groundwork for future partnerships, and identify approaches to localize the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
On November 5, the session “Empowering Park Cities–Harnessing NbS, Parks, & Urban Forestry for Climate Intelligence and Socio-Economic Growth,” featuring Maria Lucrezia De Marco, will be held. Co-organized by the Research Center of Park City Index (RCPCI), FAO and the City of São Paulo, this event builds on RCPCI’s decades-long efforts to establish a systematic framework for urban development.
Urban researchers, recognizing that human activities–such as the destruction of natural habitats for agriculture, logging, urbanization and resource extraction–have an overwhelming impact on nature, have proposed various development models, such as the park city, that reflect human ideals for urban life harmonious with nature.
