In the annual report Envisaging the Future of Cities by UN-HABITAT, the United Nations programme to promote socially and environmentally sustainable urbanisation, the Bosco Verticale in Milan is included in the chapter Nature-based Solutions and Environmental Features as a successful example of integration between living nature and architecture in a perspective of multiplying biodiversity.
Nature-based Solutions (NBS) are a mechanism, supported by the European Commission, for managing the impacts of climate change in urban spaces, halting biodiversity loss and restoring urban ecosystem services in a sustainable way; in this context, the Milanese project represents an important milestone for the future of cities.
