The Rehabilitation Center in Shenzhen, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, has been awarded the World Architecture Festival Award in the category Ageing & Health.
The 17th edition of the World Architecture Festival (WAF) took place at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from 6th to 8th November 2024. The event includes fringe events, an exhibition, and keynote talks from internationally renowned speakers.
The festival has announced its shortlist of the most innovative projects from around the world, celebrating the best new buildings under construction or completed, as well as the most innovative future architectural concepts, across 33 categories ranging from residential to transport, to retrofitting.
The Rehabilitation Center designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti develops pioneering concepts of social inclusion and cohesion, in relation to the theme of disability, both motor and cognitive. The complex, adjacent to an urban park and directly connected to the city’s light mobility system, is configured in its entirety as an ecological hill facing the natural landscape. A place of healing and inclusion immersed in greenery, where accessibility to services and the comfort of spaces are the keys to a project that challenges conventions and opens a new perspective on rehabilitation, going beyond the traditional concept of a place dedicated solely to patient long-term care and becoming a true space of interaction and well-being in close contact with nature.
