On Wednesday, December 13th at 11:30 a.m., the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering of the University of New York Tirana (UNYT) hosts Green Obsession, a conference featuring Carlotta Capobianco and Andrea Zucchi, project leaders of Stefano Boeri Architetti and key figures in the studio’s projects in Albania.
The meeting focuses on the firm’s design philosophy, with a particular focus on ongoing activities and projects in Albania, at all scales, from architecture to urban regeneration, designed to redefine the architectural landscape.
Stefano Boeri Architetti, with his Tirana office, is in fact involved in multiple projects: for example, in 2017 the design of an office building, Blloku Cube, in Tirana’s Blloku neighborhood began. Three new schools have also been planned in Tirana – Don Bosko Schools, opened in 2021, Kodër-Kamëz Schools, and Shqiponja Schools, opened this year – that embody the ideal of the Open School, a model for the education of the future that can become an epicenter in the urban life of neighborhoods, as a place open to all, for all ages, every day of the year.
In 2016, the design for the Tirana 2030 General Local Plan was also initiated: the vision of Stefano Boeri Architects aims to create a “kaleidoscopic city,” polycentric, dense and intense, with the creation of an orbital forest with 2 million new trees marking its boundaries; in short, a continuous, irregularly shaped green belt surrounding the city center and blocking land consumption.
The plan also incorporates the Tirana Riverside masterplan, a broad urban regeneration project that fosters a functional and social mixity and welcomes within it diverse cultures and backgrounds, in a district that is accessible and self-sufficient in clean energy, water, food, and all urban public services.
