UIA 2030 Award Trudo Vertical Forest

The UIA 2030 Award announces finalists for its second cycle; Trudo Vertical Forest is among the finalists in the Adequate, Safe and Affordable Housing Category.

The International Union of Architects (UIA), in collaboration with UN-Habitat-a United Nations agency for sustainable urban development-has revealed the finalists for the second cycle of the UIA 2030 Prize. This biennial award, which celebrates architecture that contributes to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda, honors built projects that demonstrate design quality and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The finalists, judged at the level of the five UIA regions (Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, and Africa), now move on to the second phase. The winners from each of the six regions will be awarded a medal at an awards ceremony to be held in Cairo, Egypt, at the 12th session of the World Urban Forum, Nov. 4-8, 2024.

Trudo Vertical Forest applies the Vertical Forest model to social housing for the first time.

Designed to accommodate mainly low-income users – such as young professionals and students – the Eindhoven tower houses apartments with low rents but high housing quality. The complex vision of “housing” coexistence between humans and other species is thus amplified in the project into a dual challenge: the possibility of combining the great challenge of the environmental crisis with the urgent need for affordable housing in contemporary cities.

The building designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti houses 125 units in 19 floors used for social housing, flexible to meet future amalgamation needs and capable of defining new housing standards for the sector.
