Pietro Chiodi, Partner and Director at Stefano Boeri Architetti, and Paloma Herrero, Project Leader at Stefano Boeri Architetti, are part of the jury for The Golden Sand Waterfront competition organized by TerraViva. The competition focuses on designing a new masterplan capable of regenerating and revitalizing a part of the waterfront context in Lignano Sabbiadoro, promoting sustainable mobility and the protection of the local landscape.
Lignano Sabbiadoro, one of Italy’s most visited destinations by international tourists, is known for its extensive coastline featuring vast sandy beaches and evergreen pine forests. In this context, TerraViva encourages competition participants to explore innovative and original urban solutions, aiming to transform this coastal area into an extraordinary public space for the community and seasonal visitors.
The municipality’s goal is to promote a complete regeneration of the Riviera Sud area, optimizing the connection between the coastal strip and the urban fabric and improving accessibility to the waterfront. Towards the residential area, the objective is to connect existing routes of the Piccinato Plan to the coastline, designing new green crossings that allow access to the seashore.
Registrations are open from October 9th, 2023, to February 9th, 2024, and the winning project will be announced on March 4th, 2024.
Among other jury members are Sandra Baggerman (MVRDV), Daniel Woodroffe (DWG), Daniela Silva (Ressano Garcia Arq.), Khadidja Salamah Konate (Stipo), Toufic Rifai (Lombardini 22), and Anna Cabrera Hens (Barcelona City Council).
