On Friday, April 5th, the presentation of the Viareggio Structural Plan took place in anticipation of the participatory process, developed by the Urban Planning Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti.
The press conference was attended by Mayor Giorgio Del Ghingaro, Urban Planning Councillor Federico Pierucci, Stefano Boeri (via remote connection), and Dr. Monia Guarino, who oversees the participatory process.
As shared in the press conference, the aim is for active involvement of citizens that goes beyond regulatory requirements: informative and consultative activities following the initiation of the process are complemented by preliminary phases of participatory social research. These phases involve collecting perceptions and opinions to identify urban opportunities and challenges through questionnaires, interviews, and field observations.
After developing the knowledge framework and defining the objectives, scheduled meetings will follow to discuss and contribute to the acts shaping the Plan and to receive specific feedback.
This approach values every citizen’s voice, expanding participation even to those who traditionally are less involved in technical planning processes. The Municipality is convinced that everyday experiences can translate into an essential contribution for a deeper understanding of urban dynamics and for urban planning that is genuinely shared.
