On Wednesday, March 20th, Stefano Boeri participates in the Renhui Lecture Series at Southeast University in Nanjing with a presentation titled “Green Obsession, Visions of Urban Forestry.”
In 2021, the 120th anniversary of the birth of Yang Tingbao, a famous Chinese architect and professor who founded the architecture program at Southeast University in Nanjing, was celebrated. In order to perpetuate his academic spirit, starting from 2021, Southeast University established the “Renhui Lecture Series,” where renowned national and international scholars and architects are invited to give lectures to promote academic exchange, inspire young architects, and guide the development of architectural education in China.
On this occasion, Stefano Boeri presents the work and philosophy of Stefano Boeri Architetti, as well as the Nanjing Vertical Forest project, the second Vertical Forest by Stefano Boeri Architetti in China, following the Easyhome Huanggang Vertical Forest project built in Huanggang in 2021.
The Nanjing Vertical Forest represents an advancement in terms of the adaptability of the vertical forest typology, which has several examples in different climatic zones, each responding to specific needs. In line with the characteristics of the typology, the Chinese intervention proposes a new form of integration between architecture and living nature and a new way of imagining cities; by unifying responses to pollution reduction and concentration of significant greenery with minimal land consumption, Stefano Boeri Architetti’s project for Nanjing continues the urban afforestation policy aimed at improving the lives of cities and communities.
