On March 29 and 30, the Regional Forum 2023 on Sustainable Development organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) entitled The city of the future is a green city: why we need trees in our cities for the SDGs is being held in Geneva and online, featuring a keynote address by Stefano Boeri.
The meeting focuses on issues related to urban forestry, highlighting the benefits brought by increasing access to urban forest cover: Urban forests are a proven and cost-effective solution to developing greener, healthier and more resilient cities and achieving the SDGs and climate action.
In this context, on Thursday, March 30 at 8:30 a.m., after the Opening Remarks by Ms. Paola Deda – Director, Forests, Land and Housing Division, UNECE – a talk by Stefano Boeri entitled “The City of the Future is a Biodiversity Metropolis” is scheduled, in which some techniques and visions for effective and sustainable urban forestation projects are presented, summarized both in the projects of Stefano Boeri Architetti’s practice and in publications such as Green Obsession. Trees Towards Cities, Humans Towards Forests (ed. Actar, 2022).
“To optimize the provision of urban ecosystem services, stakeholders at local and national levels, public and private, must collaborate on the sustainable management of urban greening strategies to future-proof our cities and contribute to the achievement of global goals.” the UNECE concludes.
