From September 18 to December 14, 2024, the exhibition Piazze. Fenomenologie dell’inatteso, curated by Orizzontale, is set up in Reggio Calabria, where the project Radura della Memoria by Stefano Boeri Architetti is presented.
The exhibition, originally produced, conceived and realized for the Many Possible Cities Festival in 2022 in the spaces of the Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence, is being presented again in the moat of Forte Batteria Siacci, on the occasion of the Strait Biennial.
The exhibition articulates a collection of squares, from the more “traditional” to the more experimental, including the Radura della Memoria, a project conceived by Stefano Boeri Architetti, Inside Outside | Petra Blaisse and Luca Vitone, with the participation of Studio Laura Gatti and Metrogramma, dedicated to the 43 victims of the August 2018 Morandi Bridge collapse tragedy.
The Radura is the manifesto of a first gesture of rebirth of the territory and neighborhood and anticipating the work Genoa in the Woods, thus linking the memory of the victims and their families and the overall vision of the future park.
The intervention consists of a circular wooden podium with a diameter of 50 m, within which are placed 43 different tree species, whose variety recalls the typical biodiversity of the Mediterranean maquis. The radial composition consists of a wooden structure made from fir trees felled on October 29, 2018 by storm Vaia in northeastern Italy’s Carnic forests, and demonstrates a constant focus on climate change and the ecological impact of the choice of materials.
