Italy is finalist of MIPIM Awards 2018. The project of Porta Nuova requalification, developed by COIMA Sgr, with the participation of Boeri Studio, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and other international architects, has been selected among the 4 finalists in the “Best Urban Regeneration Project” category. Innovative and dynamic, the Porta Nuova district has changed the face of Milan, transformed an area abandoned and detached from the rest of the city in a new cultural and business epicenter that attracts more than 10 millions of people a year.
Porta Nuova is one of the largest European completed mixed-use urban redevelopments in a historical city centre. One of the most significant buildings composing the Porta Nuova complex is the Stefano Boeri‘s Vertical Forest, a model for a sustainable residential building, a project for metropolitan reforestation contributing to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory. It is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city that operates in relation to policies for reforestation and naturalization of large urban and metropolitan borders.
