Stefano Boeri today attended the press conference of introduction to Made Expo 2017, the architecture and building exhibition to be held in Milan from 8 to 11 March. The theme of the fair and conference was “City Transformation: redevelopment and regeneration“, with a focus on the suburbs, a very important issue for Boeri’s work. “Centre and suburbs are now two generic terms – said Boeri -. In the Italian cities, suburbs has become an archipelago and many Italian and European cities built areas of poverty and marginalization in their historical centers“.
Boeri then spoke about the developement of a new social housing in large cities, to allow the access to the housing market to a growing number of families who may have access neither to social housing nor to rent. Finally, talking about the earthquake and reconstruction, Boeri focused once again on the important role of wood as a sustainable and anti-seismic material for the reconstruction of areas affected by the earthquakes and also for the building renovation of the Italian Real Estate.
