The 25th LEGO Certified Store, April 14, 2023 in Milan’s Piazza Gae Aulenti, opens with the 3D brick model of the Bosco Verticale by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra).
The model, visible from April 17, was made by Riccardo Zangelmi, Italy’s only LEGO Certified Professional, with 32,000 LEGO elements, and has a total weight of 34 kg.
The presentation of the model is accompanied by other similar initiatives organized by LEGO on the occasion of the store’s opening, including, at the store’s entrance, a 3D model of one of Milan’s most iconic symbols: the streetcar. The construction, created by the hands of Luca Petraglia, is composed of 2050 bricks and weighs more than 1.6 kg.
From songs to Lego models to crossword puzzles and comic books, the Bosco Verticale has now become a symbol even outside the architectural sphere alone, becoming an image of a new relationship between the city and nature.
The Bosco Verticale was in fact the first prototype of a new idea of architecture, the first building in which the relationship with living nature was considered a fundamental design criterion. In fact, the two towers of Porta Nuova, 80 and 112 m high, collectively house 800 trees, 15,000 perennials and/or ground cover plants and 5,000 shrubs. A vegetation equivalent to that of 30,000 square meters of forest and undergrowth, concentrated on 3,000 square meters of urban area.
