On Wednesday, September 25, the event “La Grande Milano – Dimensione Smart City,” organized by Il Giornale, offers an in-depth look at the city of Milan through some of its representative voices – among them, Stefano Boeri.
The event, which takes place at the Circolo Filologico in Via Clerici 10, has a series of debates, interviews and dialogues with the aim of ‘imagining the city of the future with an outlook on the Italian metropolis’.
During the morning of comparisons and ideas, Giannino della Frattina, head of the Milan editorial office of Il Giornale, dialogues with Stefano Boeri on the future of the city starting from the Vertical Forest, the building-prototype of a new architecture of biodiversity, which places at the center not only man anymore, but the relationship between man and other living species.
The first case built, in Milan in the Porta Nuova area, consists of two towers, 80 and 112 m high, housing a total of 800 trees (480 trees of first and second size, 300 of smaller size, 15,000 perennials and/or ground cover plants and 5,000 shrubs). A vegetation equivalent to that of 30,000 square meters of forest and undergrowth, concentrated on 3,000 square meters of urban area.
The concept of the Vertical Forest, that is, being “a house for trees that also houses humans and birds,” defines not only the urbanistic and technological features but also the architectural language and expressive qualities of the project.
