Livia Shamir, Director of the Research Department at Stefano Boeri Architetti, has been awarded the European Young Urban Forester Award 2024.
The award was established in 2010 by the European Forum of Urban Forestry (EFUF) (www.efuf.org) and is given annually to recognize the exceptional contribution of an individual under the age of 40 in the field of urban forestry practice and research.
Since 1998, the EFUF has met annually to discuss new developments, exchange experiences, and visit examples of good practices in the planning, design, and management of urban forests (from woodlands to urban parks and street trees).
The Research Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti is dedicated to studying and promoting urban forestry and development practices in Italy and Europe, participating in virtuous projects such as Parco Italia, a vision that aims to extend urban forestry to the 15 metropolitan areas (Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Messina, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Turin, Venice), connecting them through green corridors with the Apennine backbone and the Alpine system, creating a single large infrastructure throughout the peninsula; HeriTACT – Heritage Activation Through Engaging Experiences Towards Sustainable Development, a project funded by the European Commission for the co-production of highly innovative public space installations; and ELABORATOR, an initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon program for designing inclusive, safe, accessible, and sustainable urban mobility.
