Highlights conference alberto garutti | stefano boeri

conference alberto garutti
stefano boeri

Two days dedicated to Alberto Garutti, a prominent artist and exponent of public art in Italy, where Italian and international guests, including Stefano Boeri, join in conversations and presentations on the artist’s thought.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera is organizing a seminar dedicated to Alberto Garutti’s artistic practice.

The seminar, conceived by Brera Academy Director Giovanni Iovane and curated by Laura Cherubini, Giacinto di Pietrantonio and Cloe Piccoli, in collaboration with Studio Alberto Garutti, features four thematic panels – City, Institution and Anti-Institution, Nature and Landscapes, Teaching – in which the panelists discuss his 30-year experience as a professor, and the key themes of Garutti’s artistic practice, particularly his radical thinking that since the 1970s has challenged the ethical role of the artist in contemporary society.

Stefano Boeri speaks at the Panel on Cities, with an introduction by Laura Cherubini and insight by Hans Ulrich Obrist. Also speaking at the panel are Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Antonella Soldaini, Hou Hanru, and Cloe Piccoli

The conference takes place in conjunction with the publication of the book Alberto Garutti – edited by Studio Celant -, the most comprehensive monograph on the artist that sheds light on the main events in his career, the experimental scope of his language and key concepts.

The day after the seminar, Wednesday, October 23 at 6 p.m., Triennale Milano will host an event presenting the book. Stefano Boeri opens the meeting, and speakers include Barbara Casavecchia, Eva Fabbris, Francesco Garutti, and Antonella Soldaini, moderated by Anna Detheridge. The volume contains an essay by Antonella Soldaini, a historical-critical chronology from 1948 to 2023 edited by Eva Fabbris, and seven previously unpublished thematic texts by Garutti that recount the artistic journey of an author who, since the 1970s, has always questioned the role and ethical responsibility of the figure of the artist for contemporary society.
