In an interview on Avvenire, Vito Salinaro talks with the hospital’s new general director, Matteo Stocco, and discusses the New Policlinico Hospital project in Milan.
Located in the historic center of Milan, the Policlinico is among the city’s main hospitals: a health citadel enclosed within an enclosure where the various services are housed in separate buildings and connected by mostly external pathways. While preserving part of the original pavilion structure, the design of the New Polyclinic Hospital is articulated from a pair of in-line buildings, intended for inpatient and outpatient areas, to which is added a central body housing the operating blocks and delivery/trauma rooms. A roof garden of more than 7,000 square meters is planned on its roof, which will be a “green lung” for the use of patients, their families and the operators of the various departments, with the possibility of being open to the public on special occasions.
The New Policlinico Hospital is the largest construction site in the last 100 years in the city’s historic center. “In early summer 2025,” the general director assures, ”we will house the first patient.”
