On Thursday 27 October, the Cultural Heritage Office of the Archdiocese of Milan, in cooperation with the Order of Architects of the Province of Milan, is organising the conference Da Metanopoli alle Olimpiadi 2026 (From Metanopoli to the 2026 Olympics), at the Archbishopric conference hall (Piazza Fontana, 2, Milan).
Taking as its starting point Enrico Mattei’s project for the ‘city of methane’, the event focuses on the image of the ‘ideal city’, a harmonious combination of nature, work and urbanisation, and on how art can interpret the sacred in the contemporary world, with the architecture of the Church of Santa Barbara at its centre.
The conference will be opened by the archbishop, Monsignor Mario Delpini and Monsignor Luca Bressan, episcopal vicar for Culture, and will be followed by Stefano Boeri’s speech, focusing mainly on Milan’s urban transformations and the impact they have had on the city.
