On Wednesday, January 22, in the setting of the Museo Pietà Rondanini at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, the book Boeri/Gitai – A Private Glossary (Rizzoli, 2024) is presented in the presence of Stefano Boeri and Amos Gitai.
The event, introduced by institutional greetings from Tommaso Sacchi, Milan’s Councillor for Culture, and moderated by writer and journalist Silvia Brena, features a dialogue between the two authors. The discussion delves into family memories and reflections on the world, intertwining personal histories with broader cultural contexts.
The book draws on numerous personal and familial references, including Stefano Boeri’s mother, architect and designer Cini Boeri, and the story of Gitai’s mother, born in Palestine but of Russian origin. It also reflects on Gitai’s father, architect Munio Gitai, trained in the minimalist Bauhaus tradition in Germany, and Renato Boeri, a partisan and neurologist.
The result is an intimate and enlightening glossary that retraces the lives of the two authors, interconnected through personal and professional experiences, cultural interests, and a long-standing friendship.
The volume is rooted in the biographical memories of the two authors, exploring Gitai’s artistic journey, from his architecture degree in Haifa to his 1980 documentary House and his recent installation at the Architecture Biennale, where he captured key moments in recent Middle Eastern history. It also examines Boeri’s projects, from his work with the Multiplicity collective to his research on global urban conditions, including the XXIV International Exhibition Inequalities.
