The Buonenotizie.it website devotes an article to green building in Italy, citing the Bosco Verticale , a project by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra) for Milan, as a virtuous example of this architectural approach.

Green building, also known as bioarchitecture, is a design approach according to which the building must comply with the principles of environmental sustainability while at the same time taking into utmost consideration the comfort and health of the inhabitants. This is done by using natural building materials and construction techniques with low energy and environmental impact.

The two towers that make up the Bosco Verticale, in the Porta Nuova area, are 76 and 110 meters high and accommodate on their facades 711 trees, 5,000 large shrubs and 15,000 perennial and drooping plants, which densify in height until they cover an area corresponding to two hectares of forest.
The concept of the Bosco Verticale, that is, being “a house for trees that also houses humans and birds,” defines not only the urban and technological features but also the architectural language and expressive qualities of the project. On a formal level, the towers are in fact mainly characterized by the large balconies that are staggered between them and cantilever sharply (about three meters), which are functional to accommodate the large perimeter pools for vegetation and to allow the unhindered growth of larger trees, even along three floors of the building.
