Stefano Boeri Architetti won the competition for the redevelopment of the Jaarbeursboulevard area of Utrecht with the project of a new generation Vertical Forest, called Hawthorn Tower.
The redevelopment of the urban district of Utrecht was presented by Consorzio G&S Vastgoed and Kondor Wessels (VolkerWessels) Projecten and foresee the construction of two buildings, one designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti on the Boulevard and another designed by MVSA Architects from Amsterdam.
Hawthorn Tower by Stefano Boeri Architetti will be a 90 meters tall building with an active and transparent ground floor, in direct contact with the garden in the sixth floor in which will be hosted the Vertical Forest Hub, a research and documentation place on Vertical Forests in the world. Hawthorn Tower, designed on the principle of the Vertical Forest, will host one hectare of woods able to absorb CO2 and produce oxygen.
