The website Across has published an article titled Place Of The Week: Wonderwoods, Utrecht, The Netherlands, dedicated to the project designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects in the heart of Utrecht, as part of the urban regeneration plan for Beurskwartier—the new pedestrian district adjacent to the Central Station.
In particular, the Wonderwoods Vertical Forest by Stefano Boeri Architetti is a 104-meter-tall tower that reinterprets the Vertical Forest model—characterized by the prominent integration of trees and greenery—into a mixed-use format. Following the Bosco Verticale in Milan and Trudo Vertical Forest (social housing) in Eindhoven, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is the first Vertical Forest in the world to incorporate public functions accessible to all citizens. The aim is to make this innovative architectural typology increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and widely accessible.
Inaugurated in early 2025, the building hosts approximately 200 residential units of varying types, designed for a diverse range of users, along with commercial spaces, fitness and leisure areas, and restaurants.
Culturally, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest represents a significant innovation within the landscape of contemporary European architecture. It is a major experiment in the demineralization of vertical architectural surfaces, while also serving as a new urban landmark for the city of Utrecht—thanks to its strategic location in the city center and its inclusive functional mix designed to welcome all citizens.
