The Cagliari News website published an article on the occasion of the completion of the work on the new Piazza Matteotti, part of the project for Cagliari’s seafront, designed by the temporary grouping of MATE Società Cooperativa, Stefano Boeri Architetti, StudioSilva, S.T.P., MIC-HUB.
The article emphasises how the intervention involved the renewal of underground utilities, the installation of a new lighting system, and the overall redevelopment of the area. Among the works carried out was a safe pedestrian crossing with traffic lights, which will allow an easy connection between the Arst Station and the square.
Stefano Boeri Architetti’s project A green promenade for Cagliari’s seafront, includes the redevelopment of the Via Roma promenade, an intervention on the Port front, and the redevelopment of Piazza Matteotti. Starting from the Cagliari tradition of tree-lined avenues, the project defines a continuous, pedestrian and shaded public space that functions as a ‘green lung’ and a connector element, both longitudinally between the FFSS station and Piazza Ingrao, and transversally – between the city and the sea.
The project, therefore, the creation of a new park and a space open to the city, becoming a connecting element between the waterfront and the main public functions facing it, enhancing the entire area from a cultural, social and environmental point of view.
