On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the launch of the Wonderwoods project, developed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects, takes place in Utrecht.
The project consists of two towers, one designed by MVSA Architects and the other by Stefano Boeri Architetti, featuring a vertical forest concept. The tower, reaching a height of 105 meters, will host approximately 200 apartments of various types, catering to different users, primarily young professionals, workers, and families.
The tower’s façades will accommodate around 50,000 plants from 30 different species, equivalent to the vegetation of one hectare of forest. Additionally, the presence of 360 trees and 9,640 shrubs and flowers makes this a highly sustainable tower capable of absorbing CO₂ as well as a significant amount of fine particulate matter (sodium microparticles). Thanks to the filtering action of the leaves, the microclimate generated on the terraces is expected to significantly reduce the temperature variation between the exterior and interior of the apartments, leading to proportional savings in energy conditioning costs.
The building is not only a model of biodiversity in living species but also a paradigm of functional and activity diversity. The tower’s base will host a complex system of duplex residences that combine living spaces with ateliers, extending up to the fifth floor on the southwestern sides. Additionally, numerous hospitality and commercial spaces will be located along Croeselaan, Jaarbeursboulevard, and Veemarktplein.
