Wonderwoods MIPIM Awards 2025

The Wonderwoods project, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects in the center of Utrecht, has been selected as a finalist for the MIPIM Awards 2025 in the Best Mixed-Use Project category.

The complex, consisting of two towers connected at the lower levels, interacts with the urban environment both through a ground floor open to the outside and a vertical development that harmonizes with the proportions of the surrounding urban block. Enriched with office spaces, fitness and yoga areas, bicycle parking, and public and recreational spaces, Wonderwoods aims to become Utrecht’s new hub for well-being.

The building reveals a complex and multifaceted nature, positioning itself as a true innovation in the landscape of contemporary European architecture. It is not merely an iconic skyscraper indifferent to its surroundings; rather, it is an urban tower that elevates the utopia of a novel city-nature coexistence, respecting and enhancing the character of the neighborhood between Croeselaan and Jaarbeursboulevard.

The project exemplifies a mixed-use model, integrating diverse functions and activities. The tower’s base is designed to host a variety of duplex residences that combine living spaces with ateliers, extending up to the fifth floor on the southwestern sides. Additionally, numerous hospitality and commercial spaces will be located along Croeselaan, Jaarbeursboulevard, and Veemarktple.

A distinctive feature of the development is an unprecedented interpretation of the vertical forest typology, standing 105 meters tall and accommodating around 200 apartments of various types, catering primarily to young professionals, workers, and families. The tower will feature approximately 50,000 plants from 30 different species on its façades, equivalent to the vegetation of one hectare of forest—an authentic urban ecosystem capable of producing around 41 tons of oxygen annually.
