Presentato il progetto di Bari FAL

On Monday, December 9, the project for the new train shelter at the central station of Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL) in Bari, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, was presented. Developed in collaboration with the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Bari, the project will not only enhance the station’s accessibility and safety standards but will also pave the way for the second phase of works. This next phase will involve the “green” redevelopment of the entire viaduct and Corso Italia, coordinated with the Municipality’s projects in the intervention area.

The initiative is part of a strategic plan to enhance and modernize a critical infrastructure destined to become a key transportation hub for both tourists and commuters. The railway line serves as the sole rail connection to Matera, the “City of Stones,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Notably, Matera’s “Central Station” was also designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and inaugurated in 2018 during the city’s tenure as the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

“The new canopy offers an opportunity to rethink the waiting and arrival spaces at the railway station, aligning them with current standards and enhancing comfort while incorporating sustainability features,” stated Stefano Boeri. “Our project introduces new elements for water management and renewable energy production while also creating a dialogue, through the reflective interplay on the canopy’s underside, with the station at the other end of the line: Matera Centrale.”
