In the episode of 19th November, Stefano Boeri is guest on Tagadà, an in-depth television programme on current affairs, news, customs, hosted by Tiziana Panella on the La7 channel, to discuss the theme of cities.
Our cities are constantly evolving, and it is appropriate to ask how transport, commerce, tourism and life in historic centres can change.
Starting from a reflection on Milan, defined, as reported by a study of the La Sapienza University of Rome, as the place where one lives best in terms of overall well-being – work, income, services, infrastructure -, it has nevertheless become a rather expensive city, especially for young people.
Among other issues that affect city life, there is that of overcrowding related to tourism, which is mostly concentrated within the historical centres. The city of Rome presents itself as an excellent case study and, at the same time, laboratory. ‘Tourism is essentially concentrated in the centre […] and this generates unacceptable wear and tear on the city,’ says Stefano Boeri. Among the proposed solutions, there is the decentralisation of places and times of use, and the use of the Grande Raccordo Anulare, now infrastructure, as a place crossed by greenery and where most of the services now found inside cities are concentrated.
